Proper nutrition is the foundation of good health and healing. Choose to eat foods which are high in fiber, low in fat, and packed with anti-oxidants. A plant-based diet made from beans, whole grains, fruits and vegetables and nuts and seeds will give you greater energy and protect you from many lifestyle diseases that are so prevalent in America today.
Action is a law of life. Muscle tone and strength are lost without exertion, but physical activity will greatly improve total health of body, mind and spirit. It can strengthen your bones, reduce your risk of heart disease, and improve your mood.
Your body is 70% water and is essential for keeping your body in good working order. Drinking sufficient water improves digestion, helps control calories, energizes muscles, and so much more. Most adults need to drink at least 8 glasses of water (8 ounces) to stay in tip-top shape.
The sun is the primary energy source ordained by God to sustain the life of both plants and animals. It is a necessary ingredient for your health too. Getting anywhere from 5-15 minutes of sunlight on your arms, hands and face 2-3 times a week is enough to provide adequate vitamin D. This vitamin is essential for building strong bones and for a healthy heart.
Using good things moderately and avoiding the bad is obviously wise, yet often hard to practice. Temperance (sometimes called self-control) can be neither bought nor earned. It is rather a gift from God, a "fruit of the Spirit" (Galatians 5:22,23). Moderation in all things is a thread woven throughout the fabric of NEW START.
Fresh Air
The body's most essential resource is air. More important than food or water, proper breathing and pure air are fundamental to good health. Getting plenty of fresh air boosts the immune system, giving you an extra edge in fighting off germs and viruses. Fresh air also increases energy, especially as you spend time in nature. Get liberal doses in your week.
Restoration requires rest because sleep allows the body to renew itself. Many types of rest are important for health, but the sweetest rest follows active work or exercise. "Early to bed and early to rise" is a basic NEW START principle. Following all 8 principles of NEW START makes it easier for your body to rest.
Trust in God
The key to choosing and achieving vibrant health is found in a power outside of ourselves. Lasting change comes when you realize how ineffective your own efforts have been in fighting disease or habits that have brought it on. Trusting in God will give you the strength you need to make any NEW START in life--physically, emotionally or spiritually. He is your Creator, Healer, and forever Friend. And He says to you today, "I will never leave you or forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). Jesus wants to bring you abundant health and healing "that you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers" (3 John 2, New American Standard version).
